Minister Van Hijum experiences the power of cobots at Disselhorst Metaal

The tight labor market calls for smart and innovative solutions. Disselhorst Metaal is responding by embracing technology while preserving craftsmanship. A great example of this is the RoboTAO collaboration project, where government, education, and industry join forces to bring automation into practice.

Last week, Minister Eddy van Hijum, together with other stakeholders, visited our client Disselhorst Metaal to see firsthand how cobots contribute to more efficient production and support for welders.

Vocational School SMEOT and WeCobot: Collaboration in Practice

SMEOT – Vocational School is also part of this project. Students from the vocational school assisted in the installation of the WeCobot welding solution at Disselhorst Metaal, a technology they have already worked with during their training. The cobot takes over repetitive welding tasks, allowing skilled workers to focus on more complex tasks. This way, craftsmanship is preserved, and production capacity is increased.

An Inspiring Discussion About the Future of Craftsmanship

After the demonstration, a roundtable discussion followed with executives, civil servants, unions, and educational institutions. The central question was: how can technological innovation contribute to a stronger labor market? The conclusion was clear: smart automation is essential. Not only to address labor shortages but also to preserve craftsmanship and optimize production processes.
