Baas Metaal chooses a more efficient welding process
The metal fabrication company, specialized in custom products for sectors including agriculture and the food industry, works primarily with small, changing production runs. This placed high demands on the flexibility of the welding process. The existing welding robot installation no longer met those demands. Programming took too much time, lead times were too long, and the productivity of the welding department was falling behind the rest of the production process. Director/owner Leonard Baas was looking for a solution that was flexible, fast, and accessible for his welders.
The choice fell on two cobot welding systems from WeCobot. Each system is equipped with a Universal Robots cobot and a Fronius CMT welding source (read more about CMT). Thanks to WeCobot's own ONE software, welders can get started easily without extensive programming knowledge. "The cobots are an extension of our welders", says Leonard Baas.
The result: two to four times more output, shorter lead times, and consistent weld quality.
WeCobot guided the entire process. from demo and workshop on the shop floor to training and ongoing support. The expected payback period on the investment is less than two years.
