Cobot plasma cutting

Fast, consistent and safe results in cutting and gouging

Faster cutting with a cobot. Better quality. Less rework.

WeCobot is a Tool for Welders. That applies to welding, but just as much to cutting. The cobot takes over tedious, repetitive, physically demanding cutting taks. Your operator has more time for: complex contours, quality control, and production supervision.

The combination of WeCobot and Hypertherm will extend your craftsmanship.

WeCobot plasma cutting solution

Plasma cutting

WeCobot combines cobot precision with the optimized cut quality performance of Hypertherm. A combination that saves your workshop a significant amount of time in the cutting process.

With manual plasma cutting, the operator determines the cutting speed, torch angle, and stand-off height. This means the variables and results differ from operator to operator. With our ONE software you can dial in the perfect parameters for every individual cut. Which means the perfect cutting height, speed and power for all your production needs.

The result: a consistent, reliable, and faster cutting process.

Benefits

Suitable for complex shapes

Consistent quality, faster and less post-processing

Safer for the operator

Flexible deployment

Predefined shapes: circular and rectangular included

When does plasma cutting with a cobot really come into its own?

Plasma cutting with a cobot, combined with the cut quality performance of Hypertherm, makes it possible to carry out cutting operations smarter, more consistently, and more efficiently. Where manual plasma cutting demands a high level of skill, physical effort, and time, the cobot takes over the repetitive cutting movements.

This combines the flexibility of plasma cutting with the precision and repeatability of cobot technology. The result? Less manual work, a more consistent and faster cutting process. This gives the operator more time for complex operations, quality control, and process monitoring.

Ideal for large components and three-dimensional structures

Think of machine frames, steel profiles, tubes, pipes, and chassis. But also cutting applications where the cobot is placed directly onto the product using a magnetic base. Think, for example, of removing lifting eyes or cutting portholes in shipbuilding.

With this type of workpiece, the cobot can perform cutting movements that are difficult or physically demanding to carry out by hand. Especially when components don’t easily fit on a flat cutting table.

Usercase Plasma cutting

From one hour to 5 minutes: DBS Logipark cuts faster and more precisely

DBS Logipark manufactures folding gates for parking garages and needed a cutting solution that works with millimeter precision, even inside a tube just 20 centimeters wide. The combination of the cobot with the Hypertherm Powermax 65 Sync proved to be the solution.

  • Cutting time per tube reduced from 60 to 90 minutes to approximately 5 minutes
  • Consistent cutting quality, even on thicker materials up to 15 millimeters

Frequently asked questions about cobot plasma cutting

Which materials can a cobot plasma cut?

Any conductive metal: structural steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and alloys. The Hypertherm Powermax series can handle material thicknesses up to approximately 50 mm.

Can the cobot also gouge?

Yes. With the right Hypertherm torch configuration, the WeCobot can also be used for gouging, for example to remove weld joints or strip old welds during refurbishment work.

How quickly can an operator teach a new cutting path?

With the ONE software, an operator can teach a new path in just a few minutes, without any programming knowledge. Click here for more information.

Is a safety fence required for cobot plasma cutting?

The cobot itself operates in accordance with the safety standards for collaborative working (ISO/TS 15066). Plasma cutting comes with additional safety considerations regarding UV radiation, sparks, and fumes. WeCobot advises on the appropriate safety measures for each specific situation.

Is cobot plasma cutting also suitable for small production runs?

Yes. It's precisely the quick changeover capabilities of ONE that make the cobot cost-effective even for smaller runs. Many customers use the cobot during the day for series production and switch to a different product at the end of the day.

What does cobot plasma cutting deliver compared to manual cutting?

Consistently better cut quality, less post-processing, higher cutting speed over longer cutting lengths, less physical strain on the operator, and the ability to produce around the clock.
