Discover how DBS Logipark reduced the cutting time per tube from one and a half hours to five minutes using the WeCobot plasma cutting solution and a Hypertherm plasma source.

DBS Logipark, based in Zeewolde, manufactures speed gates and rapid folding gates for parking garages. These products are widely used by, among others, contractors and municipalities that build parking facilities. The available installation space is often limited.

Precision is therefore critical. The gates need to fit inside the narrowest possible tube. This way, the customer keeps more installation space at an entrance. DBS Logipark cuts with very high accuracy inside tubes just 200 millimeters wide.

The challenge: manual cutting takes time and skill

Kenneth Leeuwenkamp, owner of DBS Logipark, explains how the work used to go: "We used to do it all by hand here. It's quite precise work, everything is very tight. We try to work with the narrowest possible tube to minimize the installation space lost at a customer's entrance. And that means we need to be able to cut with incredible accuracy."

Manual cutting requires a high level of skill and takes a lot of time. Heavier tubes made this even harder. Cutting a 300 by 300 millimeter tube with a 15 millimeter wall by hand is time-consuming and demanding. DBS Logipark therefore investigated whether the process could be automated.

Speed was not the only criterion. The solution had to cut accurately inside narrow tubes and handle thicker material. It also had to keep quality constant at real production volumes.

WeCobot proved to be the solution

DBS Logipark looked for a cutting solution that could be combined with a cobot. That search led to WeCobot and partner GT Lastechniek. DBS Logipark had already worked with GT Lastechniek for some time.

"The combination of WeCobot and Hypertherm came about through advice from WeCobot itself, along with partner GT Lastechniek. Together we looked closely at which cutting solution we could combine with a cobot arm to get the best results for our products."

The final setup combines the WeCobot plasma cutting solution with the Hypertherm PowerMax 65 Sync plasma cutting machine. This combination matches what DBS Logipark needed: accurate cutting, thicker material and repeatable quality.

The result: faster, more consistent and easier plasma cutting

Orfeo Nooitmeer, operator at DBS Logipark, works with it every day. He notices the biggest difference on the thicker tubes:

WeCobot Quote

With the cobot and Hypertherm combined, we cut a 15 millimeter tube just as easily as a 6 millimeter one.”

The time savings are significant too. What once took an hour to an hour and a half per tube now takes about 5 minutes. That is at least 12 times faster. Kenneth adds: "My experience is that it's pretty smooth and easy. The cut quality of the Hypertherm machine is good. I would definitely recommend the Hypertherm machine, it's a fantastic solution if you want to run high volumes. The WeCobot plasma cutting solution just keeps running reliably. The cobot and the ONE software are incredibly easy to operate, and the precision, accuracy, and quality are always the same."
